Master Jeff  Haney

Our Master instructor

Master Jeff Haney is a 5th Dan in the World Tang Soo Do Association.

Master Haney began his study of the martial arts in 1969 at the age of 12 with Master Robert Beaudoin. He achieved the rank of Cho Dan in 1973 at the age of 16. At that time he became an assistant instructor at Master Beaudoin's studio in Wolcott, CT. He continued in that position until 1992.

In 1974, he joined the United States Tang Soo Do Federation under Master Hwang Kee. When the World Tang Soo Do Association was formed in 1982, he joined the WTSDA under Grandmaster Jae C. Shin.
He opened his first, independent, official studio with the WTSDA in 1992, in Oxford, CT, The Haney Academy of Karate I. This first studio was so successful that he soon opened another studio in Shelton, Ct., The Haney Academy of Karate II. More recently he opened a third studio in Naugatuck, The Haney Academy of Karate III.  Through the years he has also taught after school programs bringing the positive aspects of Tang Soo Do to the children in Oxford, Shelton, and Naugatuck. He has also become a mainstay in our neighbor, Region #8, by supporting their sanctioned events by his presence as a judge and official, and bringing groups of his students.

Master Haney and his twin sister Jackie were born on February 4, 1957 at the Yale New Haven Hospital in Connecticut. He was a model student and graduated from middle school as class president. After graduating from high school, he became an apprentice carpenter and established his own business, Jeff Haney and Son  Builder LLC. in 1986, which is still thriving today. His hobbies include maintaining his farm with all of the animals (horses, ducks, birds), and flying. He is a licensed pilot and he utilizes this expertise by piloting himself to distant events.

Beginning in January of 1999, Master Haney became the Regional Director of Region #9 and was also named Master of the Month. His predecessor, Master Warren Adams, turned over the reins to him knowing that Master Haney was willing and able to continue to lead the region in a democratic and professional manner. Region #9 continues to have ever increasingly successful tournaments, clinics and seminars under his direction (see the Calendar of Events schedule listing for dates and locations).  In 2004 Master Haney was named Master of the Year at the WTSDA World Championships in Orlando, Florida.

Master Haney married his wife Heather in 1990.  Heather has graciously shared her husband's time with his students and hosted picnics at their home as well as holiday parties at the school.  They have a son, Jeffrey Jr., born, January 16, 1996, who became a member of the WTSDA at three days of age although his actual physical training didn't start until he was about 4.

Master Haney is a firm believer that "with kindness, we can make the world a better place. I believe everyone should be kind to one another. It is something that my students are taught to practice. No matter what happens, greet your family and friends with a smile and pleasant word. Sooner or later, it will make a difference. Training in Tang Soo Do for nearly 30 years of my life has given me many rewards. My family, my friends, and my career have all been influenced by Tang Soo Do. I consider it an honor to be a part of this Association. I consider Grandmaster Shin, Master Beaudoin and the entire family of the World Tang Soo Do Association my extended family."
